The Verrazzano Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge connecting Brooklyn and Staten Island. It spans the Narrows at the mouth of NY Harbor. It is the longest suspension bridge in the Americas. It was named after Giovanni da Verrazzano, who sailed into the harbor in 1524. Fun fact: for over 50 years, it was misspelled (with one z instead of two), but the spelling was officially corrected in 2018 to reflect the explorer. The signs, though, will not be corrected until they wear out and have to be replaced. I use this bridge whenever I visit my sister and her family in Jersey; I never noticed the spelling, but now I will take note! I took the photo this painting is based upon, and was inspired to paint it because of the dramatic sky around the setting sun. The reproduction for sale is printed on high quality paper. Matting and framing are not included, sorry! Sizes are approximate.
